OUR BELIEFS
THE SCRIPTURES AND CREEDSOur official Confession of Faith identifies the following as the basis of our teaching: the holy scriptures found in the Old and New Testaments; the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian Creeds; and the Lutheran confessional writings in the Book of Concord. Every Sunday in worship, our congregation hears God’s Word from the holy scriptures, prays as Jesus taught, and comes to the Lord’s Table expecting to receive the mercies that the Triune God promises.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY BAPTISMWe believe that through the water and the Word in Baptism, we are liberated from sin and death by being joined to the death and resurrection of Jesus. In Baptism, God seals us by the Holy Spirit and marks us with the cross of Christ forever. Baptism inaugurates a life of discipleship. Baptism conforms us to the death and resurrection of Christ precisely so that we repent and receive forgiveness, love our neighbors, and witness to Christ.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNIONWe believe that the sacrament of Holy Communion, under the bread and wine, is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and was instituted by Christ himself for us to eat and drink. We believe the words "given for you" and "shed for you", which are heard in the blessing of the sacrament, show us that forgiveness of sin, eternal life, and salvation are truly offered in this meal.
|
We believe distributing and receiving the sacrament of Holy Communion reflects the unity of the Body of Christ and the dignity and new life of the baptized. Therefore, we practice open communion, where baptized Christians of all faithful expressions are invited to come forward to receive our Lord's Supper.
THE CHRISTIAN MISSIONIn every gathering around the Word and holy sacraments, God empowers the Church for mission by showing the needs of the world and the truth of the Gospel. As baptized people, we see our daily life as a place to carry out our calling to live as Christ for the sake of our world. All aspects of life, home and school, community and nation, daily work and leisure, citizenship and friendship, belong to God. All are places where God calls us to serve. God's Word and the church help us to discover ways to carry out this calling, individually and collectively.
