WEDDINGS AT SAINT JOHN'S

Congratulations on your engagement! Marriage is a gift of God, intended for the joy and mutual strength of those who enter it and for the well-being of the whole human family. God created us and blessed us with the gifts of companionship, the capacity to love, and the care and nurture of children. Jesus affirmed the covenant of marriage and revealed God’s own self-giving love on the cross. The Holy Spirit helps those who are united in marriage to be living signs of God’s grace, love, and faithfulness.

Marriage is also a human estate, with vows publicly witnessed. The church in worship surrounds these promises with the gathering of God’s people, the witness of the word of God, and prayers of blessing and intercession.

The information below is offered as guidance in preparing your wedding. The pastor will discuss these things with you. It is a privilege to help you plan your ceremony, and we are honored to witness your commitment to each other and God’s blessing on your marriage!

PREMARITAL COUNSELING

All couples married at St. John's are required to complete premarital counseling with Pastor Halle Kluever. She is a trained facilitator with Prepare/Enrich and uses this program when working with engaged couples.

Couples will first meet with Pastor Kluever for an intake session. During this meeting, she will get to know the couple, their history, and their hopes for their wedding ceremony. Next, the couple will complete a relationship assessment provided by Prepare/Enrich, which highlights the couple's strengths, as well as their areas for growth. This assessment will guide Pastor Kluever in structuring the remaining sessions so that the couple can focus on topics that are most beneficial to their relationship.

Each couple should plan to attend four premarital sessions. Please contact Pastor Kluever at least six months prior to the wedding date to allow enough time to complete this counseling process.
