WELCOME TO ST. JOHN'S SUNDAY SCHOOL!

All students, from preschool to high school, are welcome to participate in our Sunday School Program.
As a Christian Education committee, we strive to provide our children and youth with the fundamentals of God’s teachings and the certainty of His Love; therefore, preparing them for a life of service in their families, their churches, their communities, and the world. We use many different ways to teach about the Bible and its stories to make them interesting to our students in this electronic age. The overview of Sunday School classes and special events are a sample of the engaging curriculum we offer.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

Sunday School Classes meet each week at 9:00 AM.
PRESCHOOL
Ages 3 – 5

This class is for our youngest members, aged 3 to 5. The children will meet in their classroom for a time of singing, play, and activities focused on a Bible story and theme of the day.
KINDERGARTEN
Curriculum: Holy Moly

The children are introduced to the Bible story through an engaging video to spark their imagination. Then the teacher guides them in discussions, crafts, and hands-on activities.​
GRADES 1 – 3

GRADES 4 – 6
Curriculum: Connect

Each week, the teacher will lead the class in conversation about the lesson's main topic. Each lesson includes Bible readings and activities. This year the class will be focusing on lessons about the New Testament.
YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
Grade 7 – 12

All confirmation and high school youth are invited to attend this class. They will complete service projects, mentor the younger students in their learning, and assist with special events hosted during the Sunday School Hour.​

SUNDAY SCHOOL SPECIAL EVENTS

Throughout the Sunday School year, the Christian Education Committee hosts special events for all of our students, age 3 and up. This is the 2024–2025 Schedule of events:
SEPTEMBER 29, 2024 — Sidewalk Chalk Event
  • The Sunday School students will divide into teams and draw pictures of Bible stories on the sidewalks in front of church. Congregation members will vote for their favorites as they arrive and leave church. Prizes will be handed out during the 10:15 AM church service on Sunday, November 10.
OCTOBER 27, 2024 — Reformation Day Event
  • We will celebrate Reformation Day with rotating stations for the children to make a craft, go on a scavenger hunt, and learn about Martin Luther.
JANUARY 5, 2025 — Epiphany Event
  • We will host an event with rotating stations for the children to make a craft, go on a scavenger hunt, and learn about the festival of Epiphany.
JANUARY 19, 2025 — Birthday Social & Rock-A-Thon
  • The students are invited to attend our all-class birthday party! The children will be group according to their birth month, and they will play games, do crafts, and enjoy a birthday snack!
MARCH 2, 2025 — All About Lent Event
  • We will host an event with rotating stations for the children to make a craft and learn about the season of Lent.
MARCH 9, 2025 — Bible Olympics
  • Each Sunday School class is challenged to complete a variety of interactive games inspired by famous Bible stories.
APRIL 13, 2025 — Palm Sunday Parade & Saint John's Squares
  • The Sunday School Hour will begin with a Palm Sunday Parade in the sanctuary, where the children can wave palms and celebrate the procession of Jesus. After, youth and adult volunteers will play a trivia game with the students hosted in the style of Hollywood Squares.
MAY 18, 2025 — Bible Challenge
  • ​The children are challenged in their knowledge of the Bible through completing games and trivia activities.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CHOIR

All children in the Sunday School program are invited to participate in the Sunday School Choir. The choir performs at the 10:15 AM worship service several times throughout the year, and the children rehearse the songs during the Sunday School hour (9:00 AM) leading up to the performance.

SUNDAY SCHOOL PAGEANTS

Each year, our Sunday School students host a pageant in the sanctuary to celebrate Christmas and Easter. In addition to the performances, a rehearsal for the Christmas Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, December 21 at 10:00 AM.
